DJ's Ukay-Ukay Commandments
KNOW THE TREND
- its ok to imitate someone's sense of style for you to get ideas for your OOTDs, read fashion magazine, watch television shows about fashion and trends. And the simplest yet very effective way is follow more fashionistas/fashion enthusiast/fashion bloggers in their social media.

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE
- walking into a thrift shop and seeing multiple options with affordable price is kinda bit overwhelming however its is also tiring as you look for the best garment that suits your personal favorite. So I suggest to check every section as much as possible to find the best among the rest. Patience is indeed a virtue.
PACK LIGHT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
-limit your belongings to avoid hassle when doing your ukay shopping. All you need is your wallet, cellphone and bags (ecobag, tote bag, shopping bag) to carry a bunch of your ukay-ukay stuff.
COMFY CLOTHES
-wear comfortable clothes so that you can easily take it off while fitting the garments. The essence of "fitting everything" before buying it, is to double check if there is a need for alteration or if it doesn't fit you at all then don't buy it.
DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF "ALTERATION"
- its not a must if dont have any idea on dressmaking/sewing but if you know how to alter clothes that would be better, from resizing up to redesigning the garment you bought. Or if you know someone who can do it for you then that would be amazing.
"COLLECT THEN SELECT"
-don't be afraid to try everything on, the key is to get as much as you can then select your favorite that suits your personal style. IF YOU LIKE IT, GRAB IT.
DON'T LOOK AT THE TAGS
- sometimes we are looking for a clothes that have branded tags, however there are some branded ukay-ukay that are quite expensive but always remember your purpose why are you buying in a thrift shop and the most important thing is to find what you really like and what is comfortable for you.
BE PREPARED
-going in a thrift shop and seeing a bunch of items, you really need to exert effort looking and digging so always come prepare physically, mentally and financially.
BRING SANITIZER
- dont forget to bring this armor for hygienic purposes. Always wash your hands or use alcohol/hand-sanitizer after your ukay-ukay journey
“TAWAD” IS LIFE
- lastly, don't be shy to ask for "tawad" (discount). remember that your goal is to get less expenses. I recommend to buy a lot of ukay-ukay then ask for discount.
